On June 19, 2024, the annual assembly of the Consortium for the Protection and Valorization of Oil of Calabria PGI was held at the Marconi Hotel in Rende. The event was attended by numerous olive producers, industry experts and representatives of local institutions, confirming the growing importance of the consortium in the Calabrian agricultural and food scene.
The main objective of the assembly was to discuss future strategies for the promotion and protection of Olio di Calabria PGI. Present were president Massimino Magliocchi, director Giuseppe Perri and the consortium’s board of directors.
Among the topics discussed, special attention was given to environmental sustainability, product quality and new technologies to improve oil production and traceability.
During the assembly, several speeches stressed the importance of close collaboration between producers and institutions to ensure the quality and authenticity of Calabrian oil. New projects to promote the PGI mark were presented, including targeted marketing campaigns and educational initiatives to raise consumer awareness of the benefits of extra virgin olive oil.
The annual meeting of the Olio di Calabria PGI Consortium concluded with a strong commitment from all participants to continue working for the enhancement of this product of excellence. The road mapped out points toward greater sustainability, innovation and promotion, with the goal of consolidating the presence of Olio di Calabria IGP in national and international markets.
“We have collaborated with important mayors of the area but also involved important journalists in the sector and, last but not least, consolidated relations with the Chamber of Deputies through which important events and consensus of the product from all over Italy and the World have been structured,” Magliocchi reiterated.
Not to mention the Consortium’s participation in all the most important trade fairs in the sector, both in Italy and Europe.
Our ambition? “It is that of quality. We make the product taste and explain the nutraceutical properties of our oil,” the president wanted to reiterate.
Finally, the presentation of the unique label that, as of this year, is available-at no cost-to producers. To better market the oil and “give greater strength to the visibility of the product on the shelves,” it said.
Seniors, health and sports. On these other three, important, tracks the Consortium’s choice has “moved.” With the partnership of Anziani Italia and the free treatments for prostate and sarcopenia; the embrace with the national Lilt and the various public initiatives, between Rome and Calabria. And then the sponsorship with Cosenza women’s water polo, which, in the A1 series, has carried and will continue to carry the name “Olio di Calabria igp.” Plus, the strong desire, reciprocated, to combine the name of the Consortium with the award-winning diving champion, Calabrian doc, Giovanni Tocci.
Lots of things done then, with ample space on national TV and in trade magazines. Budget unanimously approved and new momentum already largely established.
